A crosswind gets blamed for a lot of missed greens that actually started with a lie angle problem.
When an iron shot drifts further off-line than expected in a crosswind, the instinct is to blame the wind. Often the wind is only amplifying a face-angle bias that was already there from an incorrect lie angle — the crosswind isn't creating the miss, it's exposing it.
How Lie Angle Sets Face Angle at Impact
If your lie angle is too upright for your setup, the toe of the club tends to sit up at impact, which can push the face slightly left of your intended line for a right-handed golfer. Too flat, and the opposite tends to happen. In calm air that bias might cost you a few feet. Add a crossing gust pushing the same direction as the bias, and the two effects stack — a shot that would have stayed on the green in still air drifts into a bunker or the rough instead.
A lie angle that's two degrees off can look like a minor issue on a calm range day and a major issue on a gusty Tuesday.
Checking It Properly

Posture, ball position, and grip all influence the dynamic number, which is why a static check alone can miss the real picture.

Once lie angle is corrected, we re-run the same club through our fan bay at a matching crosswind setting to confirm the drift has actually tightened, not just the calm-air dispersion.
